The Wedding

Actually, how can you start a story about a wedding without telling about the engagement?! Greg "unofficially" (without a ring!) on my 42nd (un)birthday at The Melting Pot restaurant. Greg wanted to take us all there for dinner, so he proposed to me with Deidre, my mom and dad there. Then the hardware came a few months later. May 25, 2006 was the 25th anniversary CARA Charities fashion show, which I co-chaired. Greg's parents and grandparents were in town to meet my family for the first time and for the ladies to attend the show. I KNEW he had something planned, but I assumed it would be during dinner with the whole family or something. Little did I know what all he had planned for the day of the show. While getting my make-up done that morning at the Westin Hotel (a perk for being a co-chairperson!), one of the committee members came up to say there was a problem with the stage and could I come look at it. I thought to myself, "Why can't someone else go look at it?!" but obliged her anyway. She took me in through the ballroom, to steps up to the stage, up to where the supposed "problem" was. In the meantime, Greg had come onto the stage from behind and as I turned around, there he stood. He got down on one knee and proposed, ring and all! I hadn't even noticed that the music playing at the time was the song we had picked to be our first dance song, or that the photos being flashed up on the big screen were of us! He had arranged it all with my boss, also a committee member and planner of all things cool.

Now, for the wedding: Greg and I were married June 16, 2007 at the Garden Chapel in Greenfield, IN. There was significance in this place for me, as it was built as the original St Michael's Catholic Church in Greenfield, and I know that my grandmother attended there. It gave it a special feeling. June 16 was, to that point, the hottest day of the year. Thank goodness for air conditioning! My beautiful Deidre was my maid of honor and my bridesmaid and flower girl were my dear friend Carol and her daughter Ginny, the cutest flower girl ever! Greg's best man was his brother Scott, groomsman was good friend, Greg Vincent from Owensboro, KY and the ring bearer was my cousin's son, Sterling-quite a handsome little man!

We were so happy to have so many friends and family (including all 3 of Greg's kids) to join us on our special day!

About us

Just a little background on each of us:

Greg--born and raised in western Kentucky (but I don't hold that against him-ha!) and has lived just about everywhere else it seems! (Just kidding, honey!) Has degrees in electrical and chemical engineering. He has 3 children from his previous marriage: Rachel 24, graduated from Lipscomb University with an English degree last December, now living and working in Nashville; Amanda 21, a senior at Lipscomb, will graduate this December; and Jamison, soon to be 18 (Aug 21) and a senior at Providence HS in Charlotte, NC. Greg started work just this week with IPL (Indianapolis Power and Light) and absolutely LOVES it! His parents and grandmother still live in western Kentucky.

Dianne--born and raised in Greenfield, IN. My college degree in fashion merchandising is not currently being used, as I have worked for 8 years at Performance Tire Service Company in Indianapolis. Performance Tire is the race tire distributor for Bridgestone Firestone. I have been fortuntate to travel all over the US and also to Canada, Mexico and AUSTRALIA with my job over the years. My parents still live in the house where I grew up in Greenfield. They also have a cottage on Lake Tippecanoe in northern Indiana, where my grandparents first bought their cottage over 50 years ago.

Deidre--born in Indianapolis, has lived in Greenfield since age 3 1/2. She is my daughter from my first marriage. She is now 15 and will be starting her sophomore (yes, that's right!) year at Greenfield Central High School on Aug 13. She just finished her 7th year in 4-H and is in color guard and winter guard at school. She has been driving with her learner's permit for 2 months now and completed her driver's ed class in June.

Greg and and I were married June 16, 2007, which seems like a good place to start with this blog!

Welcome Family and Friends!

I welcome you to the first installment of "Hoover Happenings!" I was inspired to start this blog by a part-time co-worker of ours--the Firestone mascot, Firehawk. His wife, Mrs. Firehawk maintains a blog here and I have found myself checking in regularly to keep updated on their family. So I thought, why not start one for myself?! It can be a great way to keep those friends and family who live far away or who are always on the go to keep updated on the happenings at the Hoover house!

ENJOY!
